Cycle from the center of the Island to the most active volcano crater in the Azores. The route to Furnas will be done by the South coastal volcano slopes across mountains, beaches, towns, villages and by Vila Franca do Campo (1st capital of São Miguel), where you will have the opportunity to taste the secret conventual pastry. From there is time to climb off Vila Franca and descend a fun beautiful serpentine road down filled with hydrangeas, azaleas and belladonas where you will finally reach Furnas lake and the one of a kind 19th Century Chapel Nossa Senhora das Vitórias. By its margins you will have the first contact with the volcano environment of the Islands. The yellowish sulfur terrain rich in minerals and the thermal and carbonated sour waters will be endless. After a cozido (traditional stew), naturally slow cooked under the ground on volcanic steam, it´s time to discover some more volcanic manifestations (geysers, fumaroles, steam holes, drinkable gasified/sour waters and thermal waters) in the middle of the century Village. Finally, it`s time relax at the remarkable Terra Nostra Garden, classified as one of the most beautiful gardens of the world, where you can observe hundreds of species from all over the planet. You still will have time to swim in the unique hot spring yellow water pool of the Garden. After this, hop in the van and return home by the North side of the Island and discover the differences between both coast lines.
